- "We have to do hugs in a bubble"....interpretation: Line up with our hands wrapped around our arms and holding your breath....teacher interpretation:getting four year olds to line up without talking or touching each other...I might have to try that one! He made me do it several times and practice lining up. I had to move my clip down bc I wasn't doing it right:)
- "I can read books to Sadie and Jasmine, but not Liza, she is to bad." Interpretation: The Librarian said to keep your books safe.
- "The man in the orange shirt, who is not Pistol Pete." This one took me a few days to figure out and I still don't think I've quite got it. He kept talking about this man in the orange shirt and I was starting to get a little worried. When I questioned him about it again tonight he finally added the line, "The man who yells 'Welcome Pre-K!' when they walk into the gym!" I busted out laughing. I think he must be referring to the PE teacher or a teacher who runs their weekly assemblies. But he must wear orange a lot and is obviously not Pistol Pete because he isn't wearing a hat!
It has been kind of refreshing to experience school through him for the first time. They learn all this structure and procedure and actually think its fun. Going to the library everyday and being so excited about the new books. I hope he keeps the excitement. I lost it pretty quickly bc I just never really liked the whole someone making you do something or sitting still, but Niles loved school.
I can't quite get what they are learning about, bc that is harder to trick out of him. He will say certain letters somedays. Today when we read a book he told me which page was the title page. I then told him he was officially smarter than a handful of my students who still couldn't find the title page. I went ahead and taught him the copyright page. When he gets to citing in MLA he is going to rock it!
He loves loves the songs. He would sing them for the first few days, but now he just tells me they sang the same ones. If you ask what book they read he will repeat the entire book to you. I think he has comprehension down.
He says he has friends, but that he can't remember their names. He can repeat an entire book that he read hours before, but can't remember the name of the kid who sets next to him on his carpet everyday? Bad with names I guess:)
Ok I know a lot of pointless information, but I will be happy I wrote all of this down in 10 years. Here are a couple of pics...
